What is food and how does it relate to your body functions?

Food provides the basic energy and nutrients for the body. Nowadays people tend to neglect the importance of choosing the right food and even skip a meal (especially omitting breakfast or merging breakfast and lunch together). They forget that periodic intakes of foods are essential: to maintain a proper metabolism, good blood circulation, and to enhance the stability of emotions and cognition. The culture of slimming is often glamorized by the beauty industry, at the expense of a balanced diet. The body in a slimmer state will eventually suffer from malnutrition, dry skin, constipation and even hair loss.

Selecting proper foods is not only important for sustaining basic body functions, but also essential for the prevention of degenerative disease. In both western nutrition and Chinese medicine nutritional therapy, food is not just a source of nutrients to sustain life in general, it is also a natural medicine. Food should be the first to be considered before taking drugs or herbs. In western preventive medicine, vitamins, antioxidants and herbs are used to protect against diseases, in Chinese medicine, food is considered the primary method of disease prevention.

Nutritional Consultation

As well as offering western nutritional consultation, we also provide consultation under the theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine Nutrition. We always endeavour to integrating the nutritional knowledge of both East and Western cultures in order to improve and enhance your health.

Food is considered to be the best “medicine” for the prevention and treatment of diseases, as well as an essential way to boost disease recovery and maintain wellbeing. Knowledge and understanding of which foods to eat or avoid will without doubt help to alleviate or prevent the onset of a variety of diseases such as arthritis, headaches ,diabetes, elevated cholesterol, cataract, infertility, menstrual problems, cardiovascular disease (coronary heart disease). The rate of recovery following some such trauma can be greatly improved.

Each person has their own cold or warm body pattern, a personalized dietary recommendation should be adopted in dealing with the associated ailments. A typical example is the occurrence of skin problems in people with a warm body pattern, an increased consumption of cooling food like bitter melon or green beans (mung beans) will be beneficial to control the problem. Conversely, those who have a cold body pattern are not recommended to consume too much cooling food, else intestinal discomfort and cold limbs will be experienced. Instead of cooling food, people with a cold body pattern should consume foods such as Coix seeds (Chinese pearl barley) and bergamot, which enhance digestive functions and the detoxification function of the liver.

Periodic discomfort, such as period pain or dizziness as experienced by females would benefit from a knowledge of Chinese Medicine Nutrition.

As for those who plan to lose weight, some natural foods and herbs are able to promote the burning of fat or inhibit the synthesis of fat.

Moreover, Chinese Medicine Nutrition can strengthen the vitality and endurance of men and smokers particularly benefit because many Chinese medicinal food recipes and herbs possess antioxidative properties which provide cellular protection.

How can a food allergy test help me?

Healthy foods can still be trigger foods, foods that put a strain on the immune system, and with continued consumption can potentially cause illness.

Almost everyone has suffered unexpectedly from allergic symptoms, including skin rashes, diarrhoea, headaches, irritable bowel syndrome, stuffy and runny noses or varieties of common uncomfortable symptoms. If we include the less dramatic symptoms like occasional anxiety, joint stiffness, water retention, dark circles under the eyes etc., It is estimated that at least one-quarter of the world’s population is living with avoidable allergies.

Although there is no cure for food allergies, serious health consequences can be prevented through early recognition, strict avoidance of food allergens and effective management of the reactions when they occur.

To achieve early recognition of your body’s food intolerances, the Mineralysis Food Allergy Test is now available to measure up to 184 food allergens from one simple prick of the finger. The actual levels of IgG antibody can be precisely measured against these individual allergens. The test will help you to understand what you need to omit or add to your diet to minimize allergic reactions.

How can a hair mineral test help me?

You will never know how organic your food is or how clean your water is! People assume their diets are healthy, their absorption of nutrients is normal and the internal utilization of them is effective. Only a hair test can indicate their real condition.

A hair test can help you to achieve a proper nutritional mineral balance by revealing what your body is either deficient in or in excess of. This test can not only show if you are exposed to excessive levels of toxic metals, but can also give a clear overview of your mineral imbalance. You will then know what foods you should consume in order to re-balance the problematic minerals and achieve a balanced nutrition.

DNA testing for nutrition and sport direction - Nutrigenomic test

We have introduced oral fluid DNA test to let our client choose their food and exercise based on their own genetic makeup.  Saliva specimen is couriered to our collaborating laboratory in Canada for analysis.  The laboratory is a CAP and CLIA accredited lab which is backed up by the University of Toronto.  A single test will be valid for the whole life.  This DNA test screens for 45 reliable genetic markers which provide important information on the following aspects:

  1. Nutrients metabolism (i.e. how efficient for nutrients absorption and utilisation)
  2. Cardiovascular health status
  3. Weight management and body composition
  4. Food intolerances (lactose and gluten)
  5. Eating habits (tendency towards craving for fat taste, sugar and starch)
  6. Fitness and physical activity (motivation to exercise, exercise behavior, power and strength, endurance, pain tolernace and tendency towards soft tissue tendon injury)

Clients can choose or avoid certain food items, perform or avoid certain exercise according to their gene and genetic variation so as to optimise and harmonise their health, and to reduce the tendency towards certain diseases and sport injury.
